I'd like to take it one step further.
The Earth is a cell. Each planet is a cell, each star is a floating protein. Each galaxy is a tissue, and the scale of things is much, much larger than we could ever understand.
Us? We are the specks of a disease infesting the Earth's surface, before its immune system flushes us out.
It is the other way, as well. Every cell is a universe, every atom within it is a solar system. Horton Hears a Who, indeed.
In both circumstances, we don't matter. Think about it. Say that one of the cells in your heart is a universe. The fact that it's part of you doesn't mean anything. You don't affect it.
Say that our universe is a cell. We're far too small and unimportant to affect whatever organism this is a cell of.
No matter what you do, your life is worthless.
