When I blinked, the grey sky turned to black. The leafless trees were orbs of light atop squat iron poles. The unsmiling pedestrians were a giggling drunk girl and the man she leaned on. Instead of chainlink fences with pieces of trash blown up against them were mildewing stone walls holding worn gravestones behind them. The very air tasted better in my mouth.
I kept my eyes closed for a while.
