"Ever noticed how beautiful the sunset is?"
Julian looked at her for a long moment before answering. "No...not since I was a kid. I never really had the time, I guess. Funny..."
"Yeah...I grew up on a farm. Every day when the sun set, I would sit in one of the wheat fields and watch. The silhouettes of the trees...The strange way I would sense everything rather than see it in the night...Just the emptiness. The loneliness of the wheat field and the sky. I miss that."
"Hah. When we were kids, we wanted to grow up and be important in the world. Now that we are...We want to go back and be carefree children. Odd how we can never be satisfied with what we have, isn't it?"
"I guess if we ever were, we'd lose the motivation to keep on trying."
"Yeah..."
They stood there for a few more moments, shivering in the oncoming night chill.
Then they walked back into their important, busy lived. Briefcases and suits.
Funny, I was drinking satsumas in white wine not long ago.
ReplyDeleteAnd this blog can be completely and utterly beautiful. More importantly, I believe a lot of it to be truth.
Hello, Luke.
ReplyDelete...Thanks. That was needed.
Ahh I see someone has been stalking my profile.
ReplyDeleteCredit where Credit's due.
Indeed I have.
ReplyDeleteIt's rather empty, but the few pieces there are rather interesting.
I don't go on it often. I'll try to make it more... interesting for you.
ReplyDeleteNo, don't try to do anything; just whatever happens is most interesting, right?
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wish I was as eloquent as you.
Ha. You do not know me. I'm probably the most clumsy person you'll ever meet. I'm messy, rough at the edges, my existence cracked down the middle like lightening scarring burned land.
ReplyDeleteWords. Words are the only thing eloquent about me.
Just out of interest, is that where you got the idea of satsumas in white wine? From me?
ReplyDeleteHell, you're right. I don't know you.
ReplyDeleteBut, Jesus, that's not always a bad thing, being 'rough at the edges'.
Just...Hell.
And yes.
I feel strangely honoured.
ReplyDeleteStrangely, indeed.
